“Don’t talk about your personal information near a phone. Not your medical records or finances. If you need to, write it on a note.”
Marlo Anderson paints a serious security picture for those of us who are attached to our cellular phones. The selfie camera may be watching you. Watching you at work, at home and even in the bathroom.
Back in the landline days, you could hear someone pick up another handset and try to listen in on a conversation…these days, they don’t need a handset – they just need YOU to keep YOUR phone around.
Think of all the places we bring our cell phones nowadays. Think of the last time you had a serious conversation and there WASN’T a phone present. Most of us lead normal lives, but that doesn’t matter to the multitude of people in the world who are one click away from stealing your identity or taking photos of you without your consent.
App builders want as much access to your phone as they can get. They would like access to your camera, your microphone, your contacts list, etc. This is the first step in getting into trouble when it comes to a spy stealing information about you.
We rely on our phones for so much, we often forget to be hyper vigilant on what information might be going out the door.
These questions are being asked so much that a new marketplace has opened up for individuals that would like to protect themselves. Small sleeves that can cover camera lenses or sound proof boxes are being sold by the thousands. Savy tech consumers want to know they can hold a conversation about their personal lives without someone listening in on the other end.
