CBS Tech Correspondent Larry Magid joins IT2 to talk Amazon.
Amazon doesn’t do a great job of policing its network of sellers. Therefore, publishers have come to realize (at alarming rates) that they’re products are being counterfeit and sold on Amazon’s platform.
The product is often not the quality the original manufacturer intended and can be bad for a brand.
But, even worse: Amazon is still making their cut… so, what is the incentive for them to better police their products?
Magid says Amazon could benefit from more government regulation, as it tends to create more consumer confidence.
How do we stop counterfeits? Magid suggests fines. If you fine a company like Amazon for counterfeits, they are sure to put better protocols in place.
