I remember reading a study a few years ago that said employees are happier when they are looking forward to a vacation than when they get back.
And, it sort of makes sense… part of the fun is the anticipation, planning and imagining. And, what’s a better motivator to work hard than knowing there is relaxation and fun ahead? It’s like interval training… this minute might be hard, but the 20 second rest is what you’re working for!
So, what if we tried to enjoy the “normal”? You know, that really mundane day where you just went through the motions… you went to work, you picked up the kids, you threw together dinner as fast as possible, everyone survived the day and is sleeping… Let’s enjoy it!
Okay, enjoying it is probably not realistic.
But, let’s acknowledge, recognize and be thankful for the “normal”.
I often call my Godmother, and like most do, I say, “What’s new?” and I love when her response is, “Nothing dear, and isn’t that a blessing?!”.
Yes, it is a blessing. And thanks for the reminder.
