Neurological Conditions
In this podcast: Jan Nelson, Occupational therapist and Founder/Director of HeartSprings Community Healing Center and Denise Tollefson from Serenity Assisted Living and Memory Care join us in studio to talk about a holistic approach when working with individuals living with neurological conditions.
There are over 600 neurological conditions. In North Dakota, we have prevalent numbers of Parkinson’s, MS and Alzheimer’s. There are also people living with strokes, brain injuries, depression, and even sleep disorders.
Nelson says, “we can continue to change the brain,” even after brain injuries or a diagnosis.
Holistic Healing
“Traditional medicine is great,” says Nelson, “… what holistic healthcare looks at are things like being in a community… laughter, hope, good food… which is why we started a community center to put all of this together.”
One of the most important “healers” Nelson mentions is joy! Joy can be medicine.
At HeartSprings, they are using an evidence-based approach to holistic healthcare.
