Too Tall Tom is on the lookout for summer storms that may hit our area, but did you know that he is not the one who actually issues the Watches or Warnings when it comes to extreme weather?
Those come from the National Weather Service in Grand Forks. Those individuals send out the actual warnings/watches and Tom reads the data and gets out the storm info along with further predictions. Too Tall notes that when someone comes up and says, “Hey! You issued a thunderstorm watch near my house and I didn’t see any rain,” he reminds them that he is just the messenger on those, its everything else that’s up to him.
Speaking of things up to the tall guy – the difference between scattered and isolated thunderstorms has to deal with probability. More math! Yes, when percentages are lower, we see isolated as the description word. When they are higher (above a certain percentage) they can be described as scattered. Never a guarantee – but easier to understand if you are looking at when to take in a round of golf!
Too Tall’s Tuesday Tidbits can be heard EVERY Tuesday during “It Takes Two with Amy and JJ” on the Mighty 790 KFGO.
