During the summer months, we tend to think about vacations. When is the next vacation? Where to go on vacation? How much to spend on a vacation? Hold your horses! In a recent KFGO Facebook pole, more than 50% of those asked said they plan on enjoying a STAYCATION this summer.
More than half of us want a vacation where we set work aside and get the benefits from some R&R without the need to pack up a van, fly somewhere or put our trust into a 500 mile road trip. No, a lot of us are looking forward to spending time nearby. We want summer fun, but we also want to sleep in our own beds.
It Takes Two with Amy and JJ has you covered. We talked to two recreation based summer hot spots to get your imagination working overtime.
A drive up north and west will get you to Lake Metigoshe State Park. Tucked into the Turtle Mountains (yes, mountains in ND) you will find sprawling series of lakes, hiking trails and the most beautiful sunsets you have ever seen. 
Christopher Lee, Assistant Manager at Lake Metigoshe State Park, shares some information with our listeners about the fantastic fishing you can take in. Whether you are looking to angle from the dock or a canoe, they have you covered with rentals and all the fishable shoreline you can handle. Folks also enjoy adjacent Peace Gardens and scenic areas around the entire park. Some great eateries are tucked alongside the roadways leading into the park and bring a camera for some of the best shots of sweeping landscapes imaginable.

If you are someone looking to find some speed, music and lakes area fun – Jeff Staley from Detroit Mountain in Detroit Lakes, MN wants you to know that they have groomed trails for hiking and, more importantly, mountain biking. Lift tickets are available to take you to the top and the way you get down is up to you. Fast = Mountain Bike. Slower = Hiking. All day = Picnic, frisbee and a stroll down the path.
