In the heat of summer the folks at The Christmas Gift want to remind you about winter. Not the snow or the cold temperatures, but the giving and the need of individuals all over the Red River Valley. Dan Michaels, president of “The Christmas Gift” and KFGO personality made a special stop into the studio today to talk about the upcoming Giftburgers on the Plaza event that kick starts the funding for The Christmas Gift.For more than 2 decades, Giftburgers on the Plaza held court in front of the USBank on Broadway in downtown Fargo. Last year, because of construction, they switched to the green space between the Fargo Civic Center main doors and the downtown Fargo Library. Shade, trees and ample parking are just some of the perks at the new location.
The grills are manned, literally, by the Fargo Fire Department and they are grilling up a classic summer lunch. A cheeseburger, chips, pop and an ice cream treat will run you $5 (of course you are invited to give more) and every dollar goes into the fund that will be dispersed to those individuals and families who need assistance during the holidays. Everything from car repairs for a person commuting to Mayo for treatment to a family devastated by an accident or just a person who needs a little boost – The Christmas Gift has been helping out for nearly 30 years.
At KFGO we could not be prouder of our involvement with The Christmas Gift. During the month of December, we play the audio from a Christmas Gift twice a day and get to help spread the word when submissions open. We are a small gear in a huge machine that raises money that immediately passes it right out the door into our community.
