Ants and Tent Caterpillars –
Dave has advice on treating ant problems in the lawn, but know that winning the battle doesn’t always mean winning the war. He warns that treating specific areas could just drive ants to another area. Be prepared to go the long haul to rid your lawn of these burrowing pests.
Dave also talks to a listener who has tent caterpillars in his trees. You can tell these little buggers because they create a webbing inside of your bushes and trees – similar to a spider, but a bit thicker. Dave says to just clear them out by hand or use a garden hose BEFORE going after them with an insecticide. This will help get rid of the problem instead of just getting the product into the web and not much else.
Sucker Trees –
Maple suckers in droves, Dave suggests a dandelion spray or a watered down version of the Ortho product “Poison Ivy” spray. 1oz to 1 gallon of water.
Looking to remove suckers growing up from the stump of a tree? Perhaps a black walnut or birch clump? Just take them down is Dave’s advice.
