The Electrification of North Dakota
Marlo Anderson says, “North Dakota needs to change the way they think about the future. General Motors is going to be producing 5 million electric vehicles a year… so you know Ford and Chrysler are going to do the same thing.”
So, how do we diversify our state? And, how do we do it now to prepare for this change.
There are a million electric vehicles driving around our country, yet it’s impossible for those people to travel across our state.
Rapid charge stations are very expensive to install. Anderson says, “around $65,000”. However, Anderson says they are working with the Bank of North Dakota to standardize the rapid charging stations throughout North Dakota and try to take down that cost barrier associated with the charging stations.
Anderson also believes these charging stations should be put at already existing gas stations and users would be charged a fee for the electricity and a “road tax”, just like the existing “gas tax”.
