Most of us have seen a forecast that includes something like, “There’s a 30% chance of rain this Saturday…” But what does that mean exactly? Amy Iler asks Chief Meteorologist Tom Szymanski why he DOESN’T use percentages in his weather forecasts.
One of the major factor Tom notes is that the listening audience of KFGO is so large, it’s hard to give exact percentages that apply to everyone who might be listening. Forecasting for North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota is tough – because as little as 10 miles north or south could see drastic differences in storms, moisture accumulation and more!
