FARGO (KFGO) – A son of the late U.S. District Judge Ronald Davies of Fargo is blasting reports that a number of federal judicial nominees have declined to support the landmark decision that ended school segregation.
According to the Washington Post and several media outlets, more than two dozen of President Trump’s judicial nominees will not answer whether they believe the landmark 1954 “Brown vs. Board of Education” ruling was properly decided.
“I think that there is some racism involved there, I really do” according to Davies’ son, retired Fargo Municipal Judge Thomas Davies. “Because when you’re talking about equal opportunity and equal education, how the heck can you look at that decision and say it’s wrong”?
In 1957, Ronald Davies, a federal judge based in Fargo and native of Crookston, Minn., faced down Arkansas Gov. Orval Faubus and issued the famous order to integrate schools in Little Rock.
“I get so mad inside that it’s pretty hard for me to get anything but cuss words out” Thomas Davies said. “Brown vs. Board of Education was decided because colored people were not given an equal education. It was rather clear that that was going on.”
“Brown vs. Board of Education” is considered one of the most important rulings in American history. The Supreme Court issued its unanimous decision 65 years ago Friday.
