Teachers. Where would we be without them?
In this podcast: Dr. John Benson, Chair of the Teaching & Learning Department at MSUM, joins Amy Iler & Tyler Axness to discuss what the young adults going into teaching today think about the profession.
It’s a career that has changed a lot in the last few decades.
It’s no secret, at times, teachers feel slighted and unequipped to do their job effectively. So, what are the young adults who are studying to be teachers thinking? Why do they want to do it?
Dr. Benson notes that most of these young adults have had the idea of being a teacher in their mind “for a long time” and are often “idealistic”.
He also notes one of the biggest hurdles in education today is the teachers inability to have more say in how to develop learning in their classroom, and the abundance of testing.
And, Dr. Benson addresses the obvious concerns about violence.
Listen to the podcast above for the whole conversation!
And, thank a teacher today! 🙂
