BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – A Sun Country airliner was grounded at the Bismarck airport after a bird strike.
The Twin Cities-based airline says the plane was enroute to Bismarck to pick up passengers and continue on to the Laughlin, Nevada airport when it was struck by a bald eagle on approach. The plane landed safely. After taxiing to the gate, the crew inspected the right wing and found damage.
Sun Country sent another aircraft from MSP Airport to pick up the passengers and continue on to its destination several hours later.
The airline says was awaiting a Boeing team to arrive in Bismarck to do the necessary repairs.
The bird strike happened late last Friday afternoon. The plane is expected to be out of service until late next week.
