On Sunday, April 14th 2019 – The world watched as Tiger Woods claimed another title at the Masters Golf Tournament.
It wasn’t his first, but the crowd (and other competitors) watched intently like it WAS his first. After years of personal and professional strife, Tiger claimed a victory that was both a comeback and a beginning. The beginning of the second phase of Tiger’s career and a comeback after a, possible, career ending injury.
Jack Michaels details young Tiger’s start at only 2 years old – putting against Bob Hope on national tv. Getting the opportunity to compete on a pro-level before he was even eligible. Being among the greats of ALL SPORTS like Michael Jordan, Wayne Gretzky or Babe Ruth. A name that is instantly associated with a sport, brands and products. And suddenly cast out after a public divorce that was anything but civil. Add to that a car crash involving alcohol. He could have disappeared into the history books and retire with more money than anyone could spend in five lifetimes.
But he didn’t do just that. He took the beatings in the court of public opinion. He retrained. He came back to professional golf and worked his way up. Not an easy climb, seemingly more difficult than the first time he made his way to the top.
This time, Tiger had the world hold its’ breath as he putted his way to glory…again.
Like him or not, this was a historic day in professional sports!
