Pork, and especially ham, is on trend in the marketplace and
remains the No. 2 most consumed protein in the U.S. Its
popularity goes well beyond the holidays. Ham is tasty,
versatile and competitively priced. – pork.org
In this podcast: Tamra Heins, the North Dakota Pork Council Executive Director, joins Amy & JJ to talk about one of America’s favorite proteins: HAM!
Heins warns consumers against falling for misleading labels when shopping for ham. A few examples:
“Hormone Free” – in the pork industry, hormones are not allowed to be used in any way. So, that is just a marketing gimmick.
“Antibiotic Free” – If that is your choice, that’s great. However, know that if you are buying a conventionally raised ham, there are withdrawal times set-up in livestock production that she says assures all ham is “antibiotic free”.
Holidays are the most common
serving occasions, but 55%
of consumers serve ham as an
EVERYDAY MEAL.
