WARROAD, Minn. (KFGO) – A Warroad, Minn. police officer has been arrested and charged with kidnapping, criminal sexual conduct and stalking.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says 29-year-old Joshua Demmerly of Warroad was arrested Tuesday.
Court documents say Demmerly sexually assaulted a juvenile victim more than ten times while the victim was 16 and 17 years old. Demmerly told the victim that they were under investigation for a felony and he “was the only thing standing between them and the Roseau County Sheriff’s Office.”
The victim said Demmerly performed traffic stops on the victim and asked the juvenile to step out the vehicle and kissed the juvenile. On one occasion, he activated the emergency lights of his squad, turned off the squad camera, and took the victim into custody in front of multiple witnesses.
The complaint also says Demmerly electronically sent photos of himself holding a gun to his head and threatening suicide if the victim wouldn’t spend time with him.
Demmerly made his first court appearance Wednesday in Roseau County District Court and is currently in the Roseau County Jail.
The BCA is asking any other possible victims to contact the BCA tip line at 1-877-996-6222.
