The chances of a historic 2019 flood have drastically diminished with the slow thaw and lack of precipitation.
In this podcast: Amanda Lee, National Weather Service Hydrologist
She predicts the Red River in Fargo to get to 23 feet by the end of the weekend and in the next few weeks as high as 33 or 34 feet. Major flood stage is 30 feet.
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney says the city will now prepare for a possible crest of 39-ft. and not the nearly 41-ft that had been a possibility.
With that said, Fargo’s Sandbag Central will close at 7 p.m. Friday, March 29, 2019, days ahead of schedule and 600,000 sandbags under the original goal of 1-million sandbags.
