More from KFGO News:
FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – National Weather Service Meteorologist Greg Gust said it could a week before the Red River will start free flowing, giving cities and counties a better idea of flood crests.
He said warm temperatures this week should start to loosen up ice but colder temperatures by Friday will delay the spring thaw. Gust said the Red River needs 60 to 100 hours of above freezing temperatures to break open and a mid-April crest still stands for the F-M area.
Cass County Highway Engineer Jason Benson said overland flooding from breakouts along Red River tributaries will likely hit 2009 and 2011 levels from north of West Fargo to Argusville. He said residents in those areas, “need to get ready and be prepared.” Benson said the level of flooding along the Red main stem through Cass County is still an unknown.
Gust and Benson were among a number of state and local representatives who met today in Fargo to discuss flood preparations.
