FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – This winter is testing everyone, including the Fargo Public Works Department as crews work around the clock to clear snow off roads and remove the high snow piles from street sides. Public Works Director Ben Dow has been keeping tabs on the numbers to date.
Since January 1st, the street department has used 53,484 gallons of fuel doing snow removal. For just one 24-hour snow event, city equipments burns about 4200 gallons of diesel fuel. The staff has worked 5,073 hours of overtime. There have been 10,331 truckloads of snow hauled to dump sites. The cost of repairs to hard pressed snow removal equipment has hit $179,000. And because the city’s fleet of equipment can’t handle all the mountains of snow that has accumulated, about $263,000 has been spent on hiring contractors to move it.
Dow says crews are focusing on snowbank removal however any additional snow events may temporarily divert that work. He says anyone with area’s of concern can call Public Works. Each will get checked out and prioritized.
