It’s Presidents Day. No school, no mail delivery and some banks are closed down. When looking for a conversation about the leaders who have shaped our nation – one name came to mind. Andrew Och. Andrew is the “First Ladies Man” and has written two books (

Andy notes that there have been all types of First Families. Some presidents were elected with adult children and bounced grandchildren on their knees, while some others had children while in office. The look of a presidency can be shaped by the wives and children – for example, Theodore Roosevelt had teenagers and young children while in office which led to some amusing pranks and situations for staff members. The image of JFK’s children playing in the Oval Office will always be associated with his term. Chelsea Clinton was just a month from her 13th birthday when she moved into the White House. These presidents have made tough choices and their wives pulled to be both politically savy as well as good parents is a story that is not regularly told.
