Saints be praised! Less than a week after the news that 2019 was going to be St. Patty’s Day Parade-less, word on the street is that Fargo city leaders want to offer some help to ensure that the thousands of yearly revelers can still enjoy the colors of Ireland in downtown Fargo.
Mayor Tim Mahoney knows that the annual parade brings folks from far and wide to to downtown on a brisk (or not so brisk, depending on the year) morning. Floats from area businesses, organizations and schools are pulled out and onto Broadway for some good old fashioned fun. The kids gathering candy, the annual button design and more are a key part of this annual event.
When word came down from the organizers that the event was cancelled for 2019 due to lower than expected volunteer turnout as well as financial burdens from costs like insurance – Amy Iler and JJ Gordon expected some groups to jump up and provide the needs to ensure the parade would take place. Now, almost a week later – crickets… That is, until It Takes Two found out that the City of Fargo reached out to lend a hand and see what they could do to keep the show rolling.
What will happen mid-March? No one knows quite yet, but the timeframe is short. We’ll know soon enough if you should throw on your green and head downtown!
