BISMARCK (Prairie Public Radio) – A bill is pending in the North Dakota legislature to raise the speed limits on interstates and other divided highways.
Grand Forks Republican Rep. Jake Blum’s bill would raise the speed limits on I-94 and I-29 from 75 to 80 mph and on divided highways, like US 2, US 83 and US Hwy. 85 from 70-75 mph.
Blum argues that other states, including South Dakota, already have an 80 mph speed limit on the interstates and many people already exceed 75 on the interstates in North Dakota. A similar bill was defeated two years ago.
