Terry Sando knows that Hillsboro is a unique community. Both young and old, the citizens often work or play outside of the city – but have chosen to make Hillsboro their home. On the opposite side of the coin, some are second or third generation Hillsboro residents and work a few blocks from where they live which is a few blocks from their church which is a few blocks from their relatives and so on and so forth.
With those in mind, Hillsboro has raised their hand to raise some money through grants and provide data to a pilot project looking to add an autonomous (driverless) bus to the city streets. This bus could shuttle passengers to community events, deliver food to American Crystal Sugar, aid in senior citizen needs and so much more. The price tag is $400,000 – but the ability to lead the charge on a project like this is worth the effort in preparing grants and finding the right funding.
In addition to the autonomous bus, Mayor Sando also talks about some other amazing projects that Hillsboro is cooking up. They might use the phrase “A Cup of Coffee Away,” but it might need a techy upgrade in the near future!
