a petition to keep their Shopko open

Undem says the loss to the community is not only convenience, but more than 20 jobs!
The petitioners are hoping they will get the attention of Shopko’s corporate headquarters, with hopes the company would come to the table to discuss what they need to keep the doors open in Oakes, North Dakota.
A similar attempt was made in Stanley, North Dakota with great success. Undem says she heard it was a drop in rent that pushed them to agree to keep the Stanley location open.
The Stanley and Oakes stores were 2 of 4 North Dakota locations set to close, the others in Lisbon and Mayville.
