As the years add up in our lives, our estates become more and more complicated. Often times, we put off discussions about who will be in charge of the finances or healthcare directive or even the location of a signed will.
Stephen Astrup from
Vogel Law Firm
walks us through some simple planning procedures that can make a massive difference when settling a loved one’s estate.
For example, questions like these are the beginning.
1. Do they have a will? Is it up-to-date?
2. Does someone hold the durable power of attorney for your finances?
3. Does someone hold the durable power of attorney for health care?
4. Have you had an open and frank discussion about healthcare, specifically in regards to items such as life-prolonging care and memory care?
5. What state laws are in effect?
Asking these questions and getting information collected before updating or creating an estate plan are simple steps that you will be grateful for in the future!
