The Mighty 790 is turning 70 years old today!
KFGO came on the air on September 7, 1948.
And, according to Bobby Becker, a former KFGO personality of the 60’s & 70’s, at that time, we had ABC Network programming. Back in the good ‘ol days, kids wouldn’t come home from school to watch TV, they would listen to their favorite shows on KFGO instead.
One of the most listened to programs on KFGO, back in 1948, was Bobby Benson and B Bar B Riders. Other shows featured on ABC Network programming: Jergens Journal with Walter Winchell, Voice of the Nation, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, A Date with Judy, Blondie, Doctor IQ and the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports.
In the early days of KFGO, Charlie Boone launched a legendary radio career, which continued at WCCO in Minneapolis.
Joel Heitkamp, in response to KFGO turning 70, says, “KFGO has a great mixture of the generation that took us to number one and the generation that will keep us at number one”.
