The Red delicious is no longer #1. More growers are opting for Gala and other varieties. Mark Seetin from the US Apple Association joins It Takes 2 to talk about the history of the Red Delicious. For example, did you know that the Red Delicious is a “pick-and-eat” meaning that you should pick it and eat it right away. It doesn’t store as well as other varieties.
Mark also informs us about the First Kiss apple that made waves at the Minnesota State Fair. A hybrid that has all the flavor and sweetness of a Honeycrisp, but a much more durable skin so it stays heartier.
