In this podcast: Kathy Wiederholt, Fruit Project Manager at NDSU-Carrington REC, joins Amy & JJ to talk about honeyberries.
Wiederholt says they were growing honeyberries even before you could buy them (2007). And, she says they are great fruit for our area because they are hearty! “Sweet and tart” like a strawberry and a raspberry and a perfect fruity, juicy flavor that makes for great desserts and jams.
They were released for sale in 2007 in Canada and didn’t become available in the US until 2009.
Looking for a variety? Look for a Canadian variety or a Japanese variety, which will grow a little taller to make picking easier.
Listen to the podcast above for more honeyberry details!
