Fargo takes a closer look at revised food truck pilot program; temporary start delay
FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – Fargo city commissioners have voted to put a two week hold on approving a pilot plan to allow food trucks and street vendors to operate on public streets.
Currently food trucks have to operate on private property with permission from the property owner. Planning Director Nicole Crutchfield asked for the continuation after public feedback, both for and against the plan, and whether changes are needed before giving the go-ahead.
Joe Burgum runs a “food truck park” at 409 Broadway. He said he has many inquiries from people who want to be downtown with a food truck but need to be on private property by law. By contrast, he said “if someone has a food cart, you can be on the sidewalk, so there is discontinuity with the city code that addresses mobile food vending.”
Crutchfield says she’ll review public comment about the pilot plan and report back to the city commission at its next meeting. The temporary plan to allow food trucks on public streets is supposed to start later this month and run through late October and if it works, city leaders could amend the law to make it permanent.
