“Tully” is now in theaters featuring a stellar performance by Charlize Theron. Ms. Theron plays a mother of three, including a newborn, and is given a very special gift by her brother. He hired her a nanny. She forms a friendship with the new woman in their home and realizes the power of the phrase “it takes a village.” From the same creative team (Director and Writer) of the hit independent film “Juno.” This is a movie that moms are going to relate to instantly, perfectly timed for a near Mother’s Day release – but note this – it is rated R, so be prepared for some adult content if you invite mom to the cineplex! Now playing at West Acres Cinema.

“Cobra Kai.” Remember Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) from “The Karate Kid?” He was the blonde haired bully who was given the famous task of “sweep the leg, Johnny!” Well, 34 years after “The Karate Kid,” Johnny is back. His life has been a series of disasters and it goes all the way back to when young Ralph Macchio beat him in that contest. He decideds to reclaim his life and re-opens the famous Cobra Kai martial arts studio. Known for being ruthless and doing whatever it takes to win, he is going to train a new generation of Cobras. Yep, this is a Karakte Kid web series that features original cast members 34 years later and it is AWESOME! The enitre series is on Youtube, each episode is roughly 27 minutes long. They will let you try out the frist two episodes for free, but after that – you need to sign up for YouTubeRed (their subscription service).

“Overboard.” A gender swapped remake of the Goldie Hawn/Kurt Russel film of the same name from 1987. All the fun of the original is stripped away in what seems like a half-hearted idea and the need to crank out a Mother’s Day comedy. Little to no chemistry between the leads is just one of the misteps here. A little insight into JJ’s approach to movies. When a movie is slated for a release date and then changed, and changed and changed – it’s never a good sign. Skip “Overboard” and just watch the 1987 original instead. By the way, it is only $3 to stream the original from the comfort of your own home, just FYI.
