IN THIS PODCAST: Parrell Grossman, Consumer Protection Division Director, North Dakota Attorney General’s office, joins It Takes 2 to give us update on their investigation into the sudden closing of a Fargo remodeling company.
He says the state will likely sue “Studs to Rugs”. The owner and chief shareholder Tim Rosene has refused to work toward a settlement and a lawsuit appears to be the only option. 10 customers have filed complaints, 9 seeking money, claiming losses of about $324,000 for projects that were never completed.
Grossman says he doesn’t know whether those seeking restitution will see any money.
Civil penalties are up to $5,000 for each violation, but Grossman says it’s doubtful that the state will ask for that amount, instead hoping to recover some of the money that people paid upfront.
If some money is available, but not enough to cover the claims in full, it will be paid out in percentages.
