FARGO (KFGO) – An open house Tues. provided a first look at design plans for a proposed skyway connecting the terminal at Fargo’s Hector International Airport with the airport’s parking lot. The airport authority is seeking public input on the plan.
Airport Exec. Dir. Shawn Dobberstein says surveys of those using the airport have found a common theme. “People want to get out of the elements quicker and a skyway definitely is the concept that will solve that,” said Dobberstein.
The skyway would cost $12-15 million. Dobberstein says it’s eligible for 90% federal funding, unlike a parking ramp which does not qualify for federal dollars. He says the airport authority could use a combination of reserves and revenue bonds to fund the project with those costs recovered by a passenger facility charge that has been collected since 1997.
Far from a done deal, Dobberstein says only commitment is to get bids to see if the skyway is affordable. If it is, he says construction could begin in 2019.
