IN THIS PODCAST: Dr. Clifford Mauriello, Sanford Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist, joins Amy Iler & Jack Carlson.
Dr. Mauriello says, “it is not a light flu season, we’ve had a lot of children and adults admitted to the hospital. And, it’s going to be with us for the next several weeks.”
He also explains how the flu vaccine is made, and why it might not be very effective this year.
A few “highlights”:
– Yes, influenza is spread through the air.
– It’s impossible to get influenza from the vaccine. It’s not a “live” virus.
– If you have already had a strain of flu, and have not had the flu shot, it’s still recommended you get a flu shot to protect from other strains.
And, remember to wash your hands!
