IN THIS PODCAST: Nick Jensen joins us to talk about the building of Grand Forks’ first “Freezeway”.
A ‘Freezeway’ is a frozen path for ice skaters and open to the public. Freezeways have recently been
embraced in cold weather cities like the Iceway in Edmonton and the Red River Mutual Trail in
Winnipeg. The Freezeway will utilize the Greenway while sharing space with existing winter user groups
“Life happens below freezing,” said Nick Jensen. “Growing up in Grand Forks, the two jokes we make
about our area is around the cold of the winter and flatness of the landscape. The Freezeway takes
those traits and creating a potentially iconic feature for our community. It was born from the idea that
people want to get outside and enjoy our city year around. We are also looking into different ways of
lighting it so residents and students can enjoy the beautiful winter evenings while being active outside.”
Here are some pictures of the progress:
… and here is the rendering of the design:
We can see the resemblance! … and are excited for it’s debut!
