Welcome to the first of FIVE weekly posts highlighting Halloween food. Every Thursday in October, I will be adding new recipes for quick and easy Halloween treats, snacks, and desserts.
Who am I? I am Amy Hirsch, Halloween party thrower and occasional guest on Mix 101.9’s
Ask a Mom
feature and Froggy 99.9’s
Mom Panel.
I’ve got a couple-three young ones and I love to do crafts.
Let’s begin today with three ridiculously easy Halloween snack ideas: Ghost Bananas, Pumpkin-faced Fruit Cups, and Scary String Cheese.
Materials needed:
Small fruit cups, like peaches or mandarin oranges
String cheese
A permanent marker
Bananas
Chocolate chips, mini and regular
A knife
Seriously, it doesn’t get any easier than drawing pumpkin and ghost faces on pre-packaged food. I free-handed mine, but a person could print out stencils for a neater finish or even do a web image search for more creative ideas.
The ghost bananas take a few extra seconds of preparation since they need to be peeled and sliced. Use mini chocolate chips for the eyes and press a regular chocolate chip into the banana point side down for the mouth.
My kids were impressed with the snacks and were happy to gobble them up (and fight over who got the last ghost banana).
Stay tuned for more Halloween recipes every Thursday at 4 PM all through October.
