It seems just because a product says, “Made in the U.S.A.” it does not necessarily mean the contents are grown/produced in our country.
IN THIS PODCAST: North Dakota Farmers Union President Mark Watne joins Amy & JJ to explain.
A good example is the red meat we buy in the grocery store. We used to have a country-of-origin labeling law that went into effect in November 2013, so we knew exactly where the meat we purchased was born, raised and slaughtered. That law was repealed by Congress in December 2015. So meat packers continue to import cattle from other countries, such as Canada or Mexico, and because the animals are slaughtered/processed here, they get the U.S.A. sticker. It really dupes consumers. – NDFU
