IN THIS PODCAST: Ben Prather, Director of Cass County Vector Control, joins Amy & JJ.
How do mosquitoes live here all winter long?
Prather says, “200 million years of evolution under their belt, makes them adaquate survivors out here!”
It’s not only us “chomping at the bit” to get outside, it’s the guys and gals keeping the mosquitoes at bay too. Prather says they have a fleet of new trucks looking to hit the road this year!
However, with the forecast looking as it does (cold), it looks like they will be a few weeks behind.
West nile and lyme disease remain the mosquito-borne illnesses of concern in our area. And, while zika and yellow fever is in the news and on people’s mind, Prather says the mosquito species capable of carrying those illnesses are not in our area.
