JJ Gordon gives us his picks to see (at the theater), stream (at home) & skip (don’t waste your time!). With temps unusually cold this weekend… we know you might be spending sometime indoors.
SEE IT
– “A Quiet Place.” In the modern horror thriller A QUIET PLACE, a family of four must navigate their lives in silence after mysterious creatures that hunt by sound threaten their survival. If they hear you, they hunt you. Directed by and starring John Krasinski, this is the thriller you’ve been looking for. Expect plenty of jump scares and be surprised how quiet the theater will be. Emily Blunt, John Krasinski’s wife read her husbands script and immediately told him, “I need to be in this.” Now playing at West Acres and Century Theaters.

– “The Wrecking Crew” – A celebration of the musical work of a group of session musicians known as “The Wrecking Crew”, a band that provided back-up instrumentals to such legendary recording artists as Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys and Bing Crosby. See interviews with folks like Cher, Glen Campbell, Nancy Sinatra, Brian Wilson, Frankie Avalon and the list goes on and on.

– “The Miracle Season” – In theaters now. Based on the inspiring true story of West High School girls’ volleyball team. After the loss of the school’s star player, Caroline “Line” Found, in an accident, the remaining team players must band together under the guidance of their tough-love coach in hope of winning the state championship. The Miracle Season has a worthy real-life story to tell, but one-dimensional characters and aggressively maudlin storytelling undercut any emotional uplift.
