Shiori, Zoe and Lizzy are Seniors at Fargo South High school and will be part of a nationwide protest for gun reform tomorrow. On Wednesday, March 14th at 1:00pm, they will walk out of school for 17 minutes, one minute for each victim of the Stoneman Douglas school shooting.
They say 10 minutes will be a silent protest and 7 minutes will be dedicated to starting a healthy dialogue.
Here’s their “why”:
“I just feel like there is some kind of calling in our nation today… to push for safe school environments…. it’s so imperative because we want to feel safe in our schools and in order to do that, you need voices and individuals to start [that dialogue]”
“…I grew up in a family who is very into firearms, and owning firearms and we were all very educated. We all have our hunters safety. But, I’ve discovered while growing up that not a lot of people are as educated as my family, so getting that message out in a peaceful way…. that you need to be educated in what you are holding… Also, the most important part of this walkout is the students who have passed away and the victims and their families…”
“This is an opportunity to [communicate]… all we want is somewhere safe to learn… we want a safe learning environment… no matter your political ideals, we all want safe school environments”
