STERLING, N.D. (KFGO) – Three cars and the semi truck carrying them were destroyed by fire on I-94 west of Sterling Thursday afternoon after a mechanical problem with the semi.
According to the Highway Patrol, the 39-year-old driver from West Fargo was on his way to Bismarck when he heard a noise from the engine compartment. As he was pulling over, he heard a loud “bang” and then saw flames coming from under the hood.
Another driver stopped to help, and both drivers used extinguishers to try to control the fire, but were unsuccessful.
There were nine cars on the truck’s trailer. One had a hybrid battery that was on fire.
No one was hurt in the fire, but Metro Ambulance staged at the scene as a precaution.
Burleigh Rural Fire also responded.
