FARGO (KFGO) – Dozens of books are disappearing from “Little Free Libraries” in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The familiar miniature libraries, typically seen on front lawns and boulevards, encourage reading by allowing books to be borrowed and traded free-of-charge.
Kristi Hallock of south Fargo says her Little Free Library was cleaned out sometime on Tuesday.
“My neighbor had come over and told me that a small chalkboard I had out by my little library was gone. She had seen a couple gentlemen take it. And so I went and looked at the library and it was empty” Hallock said.
Hallock says she’s aware of at least two other Little Free Libraries that were recently cleaned out in Fargo and two others in Moorhead. The total number of number of similar incidents isn’t clear.
‘I’m very surprised. I really don’t know why people would be taking these”
Hallock says police became aware of the thefts through online discussions on the “Nextdoor” app, although she is not aware of anyone filing a formal police report.
