FARGO, N.D. – Brady’s Border2Border Ruck March finished the last leg of their nearly 400-mile walk in Fargo Saturday. The march began Tuesday on the western border of North Dakota. 16 family and friends went from the western border of North Dakota carrying 20 pounds in the bags on their backs representing the 20 veterans who suffer post-traumatic stress disorder who commit suicide every day.
Organizers started the march a year ago when they went from the Canadian border to the South Dakota to honor Brady Oberg, who grew up in Ulen, Minnesota. A veteran who served in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, he returned home but struggled with PTSD, and took his life in 2015. His family then started the Brady Oberg Legacy Foundation, to raise awareness of post-traumatic stress disorder.
Tracy Dunham, Brady’s sister, called the march “amazing.” She said the marchers not only decided to march across the state but also spent five days away from their jobs and families to “help shine a light on PTSD.”
John Dalziel came up with the idea of the ruck across the state. He said, “we can take the warrior from the war, but we struggle to take the war out of the warrior.”
