FARGO – A member of a prominent family that provided the original land for Fargo’s Hector International Airport has died.
Fred Hector died Saturday. He was 86.
The Hector family’s connections to Fargo span several decades. In 1931, members of the Hector family donated nearly 160 acres that were incorporated into the present airport property, along with land purchased from adjacent landowners.
In 1990, Fred and Earlyne Hector gifted 150 acres of land to the Fargo Park District. The land was used to build Rose Creek Golf Course.
In 2016, the Hectors divorced, resulting in a court battle over an estimated $50 million. A settlement was reached and the case never went to trial.
Funeral arrangements for Fred Hector are pending at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home in Fargo.
