Pembina, N.D. (KFGO) – A 24-year-old Neche, North Dakota man was charged with DUI after a rear-end crash seriously injured himself and a 43-year-old Pembina woman.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says around 8 p.m. Friday, about one mile north of Pembina, a pickup was southbound on I-29 when it rear-ended a semi-trailer. The pickup became pinned under the trailer, trapping the two occupants.
Alan Winkler and Jennifer Winkler were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Neither were using their seat belts. Alan Winkler was charged with DUI.
The 69-year-old Thompson, N.D., man driving the semi was not hurt.
The southbound lanes of I-29 were obstructed for approximately three hours.
The crash remains under investigation.
