BISMARCK – North Dakota’s House members have pitched in to buy a car for the Capitol’s popular parking lot attendant.
An emotional Mark Johnstone was presented keys to the 2007 Ford Taurus on Friday.
Republican Rep. Don Vigesaa says Johnstone had been having problems getting to work because his old vehicle was unreliable. Vigesaa is a car dealer from Cooperstown and says he had a reliable trade-in on his lot.
Vigesaa says it was a bipartisan effort to raise money for taxes and license fees so Johnstone could get back on the road.
Johnstone was homeless for 30 years and is a recovering alcoholic. Lawmakers say he’s turned his life around and is one of the friendliest and most helpful people at the Capitol.
