FARGO, N.D. – Riley Rude of Moorhead was presented with the F-M Ambulance Service Citizens Lifesaving Award for helping save the life of a neighbor.
Three months, ago John Collins collapsed outside his home while shoveling snow. with cardiac arrest. Rude saw Collins lying in the road, recognized he wasn’t breathing and performed CPR until emergency responders arrived. Collins calls Rude his guardian angel.
While Rude downplays his actions in helping save Collins’ life, F-M Ambulance spokesperson Kristi Engelstad, says only 7 percent survive a heart attack and only about 34 percent receive immediate CPR from a bystander. Collins is now recovered from the heart attack.
F-M Ambulance will hold their “Save a Life Saturday” CPR training class this Saturday from noon to 5 at West Acres Mall.
