WASHINGTON (KFGO) – The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee is calling for an investigation into a multi-million dollar border wall contract awarded to Fisher Sand & Gravel of Dickinson, N.D.
In a letter to the Inspector General’s Office, Democratic Mississippi Rep. Bennie Thompson claims Fisher previously had not been awarded a contract because the company did not meet the operational requirements of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
Thompson wrote “nevertheless, President Trump has personally and repeatedly urged USACE to award construction contracts to Fisher Sand and Gravel Co.”
Thompson says the actions “raise concerns about the possibility of inappropriate influence on USACE’s contracting decision.”
“Therefore, I am requesting that you review the award of this contract to ensure that the bid submitted by Fisher met the solicitation standards and that USACE made the award in accordance with federal procurement law and regulations.”
A message left for the company was not immediately returned.
Fisher will receive nearly $270 million to build about 31 miles along the border near Yuma, AZ.
