FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – The cones are out as major reconstruction of Main Avenue in downtown Fargo has started. It’s a two year project.
The first phase, to be completed this summer and fall, involves Main Avenue from the Red River to Broadway. That will include construction of a roundabout at 2nd Street that engineers say will improve traffic flows entering Fargo.
The second phase, from Broadway to University Drive, will be completed during the 2020 building season.
State DOT Assistant district Engineer Joe Peyerl says the project is long overdue. He says the infrastructure beneath Main Avenue is 50 to 60 years old and the pavement is falling apart. The cost of construction is estimated at $12 million. Funding is coming from a variety of federal, state and local sources. Detours around the work zone will vary throughout the construction.
Community members and businesses have the chance to ask questions regarding the project starting April 25 at bi-weekly meetings.
