JAMESTOWN, N.D. – A man has been arrested for assaulting a Jamestown police officer.
The officer responded to a welfare check at an apartment Wednesday night. A mental health official requested police there because of concerns about how the individual might react. A family member also responded. the man attacked the family member and the officer several times. Officials say family members of the man also went to the apartment and a fight eventually broke out, with the assailant punching a relative in the neck and face. The officer intervened in the fight and the man eventually starting punching him. He was arrested on charges of simple assault-domestic violence and assault on a peace officer and was taken to the Stutsman County Correctional Center.
The officer was taken to the hospital for facial injuries and then released.
