Charlie Woods’ week at the Junior PGA Championship came to a close Thursday when he missed the secondary cut in Frisco, Texas.
The 17-year-old son of Tiger Woods struggled in his third round, posting a 5-over-par 77 on the Fields Ranch East course at PGA Frisco. He dropped to 6 over par for the week, with the cut line landing at even par.
Charlie Woods opened the tournament with rounds of 75 and 70 to make the 36-hole cut.
The native of Jupiter, Fla., went out in 1-over 37 before any chance of advancing evaporated on the back nine. He made double bogey at the par-4 10th before bogeying the ensuing three holes.
After another bogey at No. 16, the Florida State commit managed a brighter finish with back-to-back birdies.
Last year, Woods tied for ninth in the Junior PGA Championship.
A week ago, Woods failed to reach the match-play portion of the U.S. Junior Amateur, coming up short in a playoff after stroke play at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa.
Jaden Soong of Burbank, Calif., took a two-stroke lead into the final round after his round of 69 moved him to 8-under 208 through 54 holes. Kailer Stone of Alameda, Calif., held the halfway lead but stumbled to a 75 Thursday, dropping into a tie for second at 6 under with Ainslie Stanford of Edmond, Okla. (73).
